2017 SBBWA Scholarship Recipient

Dear SBBWA Members,
Thank you again for your generous scholarship towards my education. It means a lot to me and my family. Thank you for choosing me to be one of your recipients. As I previously wrote to you, I enjoyed your annual event very much, but attending your scholarship dinner was even more enjoyable because it showed me how you all work together, and even though you are members of SBBWA to raise money for scholarships and network, it could be seen that many of you are true friends. The camaraderie between many of you was heartfelt and the way you all made me and my mum feel welcome was amazing. It’s so weird that you already know my sister and my mum!

I am working very hard as the Performing Arts teacher at a camp spending all day with children and then planning lessons each night is a learning curve for me and hard work. Besides the daily lessons with kids aged 4 to 11 years old, on Fridays at the end of each of my classes, I must have four performances ready to present to parents and the entire camp Every Friday!

Knowing that you are all behind me, supporting me, helps me to remember to work hard, keep my GPA high and to remember to take time to give back to my community. While at university, I will continue to take classes way outside of my comfort zone. Last year I took a film class… little did I know that I’d have to film my own movies. Very challenging for me. And my first business class, Management of Organizations… I received nearly 100% in the class. Who knew? I’m looking forward to being a senior in the fall. I cannot even believe it – the years have flown by. I am thinking about my thesis project.

Thank you again and please know how much each and every one of you mean to my family. Isabella says hello and is excited about starting her Master’s degree program at LMU in the fall. Coincidentally, she’s teaching (art) at a different camp this summer. My mum says hello and promises to attend one or more of your dinners. We all know how hard you all work to give back to our community and as you know, I hope to do the same in making the lives of children with disabilities better.

Take care and I hope to see you soon.
Very truly yours,
Paloma Williams
